The functional area of The Thuruthippuram Service Co-Operative Bank Ltd.No.1789 is spread over the delta regions such as Thuruthippuram ,Vellottumpuram ,Puliyamthuruth,Thuruthoor a few kilometre to the east where the Periyar river confluence with the Arabian Sea.Bonded three sides by rivers, this land scape belongs to the Puthenvelikara panchayath, the northern boundary of the Ernakulum district.

The Thuruthippuram and surrounding areas had made valuable contribution to our state in the historical socio economical levels . The Portuguese fort here still remains as the reminiscence of the foreign tampering during ancient times with our nation .The presence of burial pots excavated from this area indicates the presence of human inhabitance in olden times. Gothuruth known as the cradle of "Chavittunadakam''is a location adjacent to Thuruthipuram. The nomenclature of certain locations here are clear indications of Budha, Jaina, relationship with the concerned region. Evidences of invation by Chera dynasty, Travancore Cochin kings, Tippusulthan are still available here.
The formation of this society was due to the untiring efforts extended by Rev.Father IGNITIOUS ARUJA the vicar of St.Francis Assisi , who understood that the development of a region could take place only by the united activities of the human dwellings to in the locality. On 16/08/1928 the registration of the society took place and the activities started on 21/10/1928. The head office of the bank was opposite to the St.Francis Assisi Church. The principal activities of the people in this region are agriculture, fishing , Coir making and mat making . The society aim at the economic and cultural up liftment of these inhabitants by formulating multifaced activities and executing them.
